The Modular Cable Tower is a complete cable machine in a single upright — lat pulldown, low row, and a variable-height slider pulley, all running off one weight stack. It is built on the same foot, the same 72mm uprights, and the same weight stack system as the Functional Trainer Rack. If your training goals or your space change, you are not replacing it — you are adding to it.

Cable System

The Modular Cable Tower has three cable stations:

Lat pulldown — overhead cable pull, fixed position. Pulley ratio 1:1. What you load is what you pull.

Low row — seated or standing cable row, fixed position. Pulley ratio 1:1.

Vertical slider — a single cable pulley that travels the full height of the upright. Set it high for tricep pushdowns or single-arm pulls. Set it low for cable curls, face pulls, or ankle cable exercises. This runs at a 2:1 ratio: load 10kg and you pull 5kg of resistance, which makes it well suited to higher-rep isolation work at variable angles. The slider installs on the left or right side of the upright — the user sets this during assembly and can change it.

All cables are nylon-coated, 6mm OD.

Weight Stack Configurations

Standard stack — 90kg cast iron weight stack with a 5kg plate holder on top. The holder takes up to four 25kg plates, giving you up to 95kg plus additional plate load. Remove the holder and load stack plates directly for up to 160kg on the stack.

Double plate holder — Two plate holders (top and bottom), each taking up to four 25kg plates. Both holders weigh 5kg each (10kg combined). Maximum load across both holders: 210kg.

Footprint and Stability

The Modular Cable Tower has two stability configurations:

T-connector stabiliser feet — Two horizontal feet attach perpendicular to the main foot, one on each side, forming a T at the base. Each extends approximately 47cm from centre, giving a total base width of approximately 101cm. The stabiliser feet include weight plate storage — loading your own plates onto them adds stability and keeps your floor clear.

Wall-anchor — A second foot runs behind the upright and fixes to the wall. This keeps the floor footprint minimal: the ground footprint in this configuration is set by the weight stack, which is approximately 40cm wide. This is the better option where floor space is the primary constraint.

Upgrading to the Functional Trainer Rack

The Modular Cable Tower shares its foot, uprights, top connector, and weight stack with the Functional Trainer Rack. To upgrade, you add a second foot, two more uprights, the rack crossmembers, and a second cable set. Nothing from the Modular Cable Tower is discarded — it becomes the right half of the full system.
