The Functional Trainer Rack is the top of the Sheer Force system. It is a full squat rack and a complete cable machine built on a single structure — the same uprights, the same feet, the same weight stack anchor — so nothing is doubled up and nothing is wasted.
The rack uses four 72mm × 72mm uprights in 11-gauge (2.9mm) steel, the same wall thickness used in commercial gym equipment. Hole spacing is 50mm throughout, giving you fine adjustment on J-cup and safety height. The uprights sit on two feet running front to back, which is the same foot used across the entire Sheer Force range. If you started with a Squat Stand or a Squat Rack, this is the structure you were always building toward.
Cable System
The cable system runs off a single weight stack with two distinct cable circuits:
Functional trainer cables run through vertical slider pulleys on both sides of the rack. The sliders travel the full height of the uprights, so you can pull from any angle — high, mid, or low. These run at a 2:1 pulley ratio: load 90kg on the stack and you are pulling 45kg of resistance. This is standard for functional trainers and allows for higher-rep cable work without overloading the joints.
Low row and lat pulldown are independent cable runs at a 1:1 ratio: what you load is what you pull. These are separate from the functional trainer cables and run off the same weight stack.
All cables are nylon-coated, 6mm OD.
Weight Stack Configurations
The Functional Trainer Rack is available in two weight stack configurations:
Standard stack — A 90kg cast iron weight stack with a 5kg plate holder on top. The holder accommodates up to four standard weight plates (maximum 25kg each), giving you a total effective load of 95kg plus whatever plates you add. If you want to go beyond that, remove the plate holder and load additional stack plates directly — the system supports up to 160kg on the stack.
Double plate holder — For those who already have a weight plate collection. Replaces the cast stack with two plate holders: one at the top and one at the bottom. Each holder takes up to four 25kg plates. Both holders weigh 5kg each (10kg combined). Total maximum load across both holders: 210kg.

The Upgrade Path
The Functional Trainer Rack is the final stage of the Sheer Force upgrade system. Every major structural component — the feet, the uprights, the top connector, the weight stack anchor — is shared across the range. If you own a Squat Stand, you are one set of uprights away from a Squat Rack. If you own a Squat Rack, you are one cable kit away from this. If you own a Modular Cable Tower, you are one foot and one set of uprights away from this.
Nothing you buy gets left behind. Every purchase is a step toward the full system, not a dead end.

The Functional Trainer Rack is compatible with the full range of Sheer Force accessories:
